Ushers

Ushers guide contestants and guardians from the entrance to reception, onward to competition rooms and later to the food hall. They also support Reception and Room Leads with small, clearly assigned tasks.

Visible · calm · clear directions
Stay in position: do not leave an entrance, corridor or room-door post without permission from the Usher Lead. If another team asks for help, tell your lead so your station remains covered.

Usher running plan

Main routes

Arrival route

  1. Welcome contestants and guardians at the entrance and direct everyone to reception first.
  2. Do not send a contestant straight to a room unless reception confirms they are checked in.
  3. After check-in, guide them to the correct Category A, B, C or D room.
  4. Point out toilets, prayer areas and waiting areas without creating congestion.
  5. Return to your assigned position promptly.

Food and ceremony route

  • Take positions before the competition rooms release contestants for the food break.
  • Guide contestants and guardians to the food hall using the route set by the Usher Lead.
  • Do not decide food eligibility; the Food team checks entry at the hall.
  • After food, guide Category D contestants and families to the Main Jamaat Khana as directed.
  • Before and after the ceremony, keep entrances, aisles and emergency routes clear.
While competition is running

Keep movement controlled

  • Keep voices low near competition rooms and prevent groups gathering in doorways.
  • Help late arrivals reach reception and then their correct room quietly.
  • During Dhuhr, guide people to prayer areas and manage the return without blocking corridors.
  • If a room is full or closed, do not force entry; ask the Room Lead.
  • Report spills, trip hazards, crowding or blocked exits immediately.

Small support tasks

  • Carry messages or approved supplies between reception and rooms.
  • Help Reception locate a contestant or guardian in a public area.
  • Help Room Leads manage queues or bring the next contestant when asked.
  • Help Food manage the external queue without taking over programme check-in.
  • Return to your original post or receive a new post from the Usher Lead after the task.
Safeguarding: never take a child away alone or into an isolated area. If a child is lost, distressed or separated from their guardian, remain in a visible place and contact reception immediately.
